Avon BA Restricted 2012

The 2012 Avon Restricted was held at the new home of Avon Senior and Masters ICC teams, Hengrove Park Leisure Centre.  The hall, with its sprung floor and badminton specific lighting, proved to be a worthy venue.

On Friday, 13 pairs contested the Mixed Doubles.  To ensure all players have at least two games in each competition a plate tournament was played. In the Mixed plate Dave Gribble and Jodie Lane beat Barry Mullholland and Tessa Saunders in a close three setter game.  The main draw started with the top seeds, Tom Farmer and Hannah Littlecott having to withdraw due to an injury to Tom.  This left the draw clear for the un-seeded junior brother and sister pair of Henley and Kirby Ngan who beat the second seeds Ian Bush and Claire Buckingham in the final.

On Saturday the Woman’s Doubles and Men’s Singles were played. 16 Men contested the singles. Kieran and Aidan Gibbons played in the final of the plate, the elder brother, Kieran, coming out the winner in the final.  The final of the main Draw of the Men’s singles was between the two ¾ seeds, Rob Armstrong and the winner Henley Ngan. The Woman’s Doubles was played in group of 4 pairs with Claire Buckingham and Jenny Bush the winners.

On Sunday the remaining two competitions were played, Woman’s Singles and Men’s Doubles.  A disappointing entry for the Woman’s Singles left a group of three, following three withdrawals, to decide the winner Hannah Littlecott.  The Men’s doubles had an entry of 8 pairs which were split into two groups. The final saw the number 1 seeds of Ian Bush and Richard Wallbank lose in three games to the un-seeded pair of Andrew Craig and Caleb Walker.

The weekend was a success.  My thanks go to all who helped over the three days, and to the players, who played in a competitive and fair manner.
