National Badminton Success for Avon Junior Clubs

St Ursula’s and Chew Valley Junior Badminton Clubs enjoyed successes in the National Badminton League finals at Milton Keynes on 20th and 21st May. St Ursula’s U12 and U16 teams became National Champions and Chew Valley U14s became runners up.
The competitions were held for the regional winners in age groups of under 12, under 14 and under 16 in a team format mirroring that of the Senior National Badminton League, 1 boys singles, one girl's singles, one boys' doubles, one girls' doubles and one mixed game, U12s playing best of 5 games to 9 points with the option of a ‘power play’ for 2 points whilst U14s and U16s played best of 3 games.
As winners of the Avon regional round in Thornbury in March, St Ursula’s Junior Badminton Club represented the U12 and U16 categories whilst Chew Valley Juniors played in the U14 event.
St Ursula's U12s played on the Saturday with a limited entry due to withdrawals, playing against Leicester City FC Community Trust and Swifts the Surrey based dominating team from last year. The first match against Leicester was a straightforward 5-0 win, then Swifts presented a much tougher opposition with St Ursula’s winning 3-2 to take the title.

The semi-final pitched them against North Hertfordshire securing a 4-1 win to meet Swifts in the final. Swifts again continued their dominating performances with a 5-0 win to give Chew Valley the runners-up spot.
